“¡Ola! My name is Vanessa and I’m graduating from paralegal classes at Merritt College. I never left Brazil before I moved here. When I moved to California, I fell in love immediately. I never thought that I would be so happy in the United States, and I think that is because I'm here in California. When you first got here the language is kind of a huge barrier. I think what made me overcome was to realize that there were other people in the same boat as me, that I wasn't alone. So when I say that the International Student Community is strong, it’s because we helped each other in a very strong way. I started working with my peers and I feel that helping them and seeing each of them going through the same thing that I went through made me feel stronger. I want to work with international students, I want them to be together and help each other and overcome whatever they need to overcome
I am on my OPT already, and who knows what the future will hold. Thank you to all the International Office, you guys are amazing. I love you!”
